Located in a 17 th century farmerhause near Marche-en- Famenne, Belgium, the permanent exhibition of Cordaneum shows the construction of the string quartet instruments and takes you to the discovery of special instruments and contemporary works by Master luthier Gauthier Louppe.
This place recreates the luthier's workshop, where students pratice their craft, frow drawing, to choosing the wood, to applying the varnish. This exhibition has many aspects that are related to one another: history, tradition, philosophy, science and art.
The exhibition shows the evolution of wood being gradually turned into sound. The didactic part, made of real pieces, shows the different phases of violin-making, along with a few notions of science and acoustics.
Classical instruments, both historical and varied, make us discover their evolution and the way they function.
